Here's the first pictures in from the
field from Robin WA6CDR/m. These were taken directly from his video
tape on the way home from a long trip up in the central valley of
California.
WA6CDR scored 44,920 points this year! 151 QSOs with 23 stations. K6OW worked Robin 29 times!
The rest of us only worked him 10 or 15 times.....
A view of the 4 foot dish, mounted on the trailer and ready to go in a minute or two! Robin left the system powered up on the fly to monitor beacons while moving.
A view of the dish which had a clear shot over the van.
The equipment in the operating area...TS 940 IF, homebrew transverter, TWT amp at >5 Watts, 1 db noise figure and frequency stabilized to <10 Hertz.....(portable?)
Finally! We have some pictures from the Northern California
guys.....all of the rumors about big foot operating in the last
contest aren't true......
W6ASL and K6GZA on Mt. Tamalpais looking South.
W6BY, Brian on 24,192 SSB operating from Mt. Diablo.
Jim, W6ASL listening for Jack way down in San Diego
K6GZA, Ron, worked N6XQ in SanDiego 4, count em 4 times (!) from Mt.
Loma Prieta, Mt Diablo, Mt. Tamalpais and Mt. Vaca. These are 700 +
km contacts!
K6GZA working Jack from Mt. Vaca, CM88WJ, 770 km.
Hopefully we can get more pictures and.....some audio tape of these long haul QSOs to put up here....soon.....
Great effort as usual from the San Francisco Bay area.
Every one of these guys has one of these with them...........are we missing something?
Here's some of the Heaps Peak crew.....Eleven SBMS members visited or
operated from Heaps Peak over the second contest weekend.
l to r standing: W6SYA, K6LJM, K6OW, N6CA & WB6DNX
l to r kneeling: WA6EXV & WA6QYR
Ever feel like you were being illuminated?
the loud noise was the clanking of the dishes
as everyone was turning their dishes....frantically..... searching....hoping to beat K6OW on the next rover to show up.
maybe next year.....whew
WA6QYR's x-band trailer and 4 foot dish with WA6EXV's 4 footer in
fore ground
and Bill, WA6QYR operating his 24 GHz quipment from Heaps Peak....133 km!
WA6QYR & WB6DNX looking at 24 GHz.
Here's a shot of K6ML and W6SYA getting ready for the contest.
and Bob, W6SYA at Heaps Peak on second weekend. K6OW's 24 GHz gear (white dish) in fore ground and N6CA's van with 10 GHz 2 foot dish above everyone elses.
N6XQ, Jack, decided to stay home this year and watch football
games...... and operate..... from his electric recliner
chair.....only made 19522 points and 14 grids and 768 km DX from
home!.....6 foot dish and 15 Watts.....Dish in picture is pointed up
coast to SF & LA.....what a view....what a radio location!
Dave, WA6CGR handed out quite a few QSOs and even stopped by for a
visit.....took some of these pictures too.....
Doug, K6JEY put forth a good effort this year on 10 & 24 GHz for
the first time
Here's a couple of shots of K6OW and WB6DNX on Heaps Peak. Both were
very active on 10 & 24 GHz.
and K6OW's gear and hair
WA6EXV, WA6QYR & WB6DNX all trying to figure out why K6OW does so well in every contest.....
WA6EXV spying on K6OW and Dave refusing to tell anything!
W6SYA & WB6JBZ stopped by for a little operating and a suprise visit!
All in all, it was a great contest. The Heaps Peak guys had a fun time. Will WA6CDR break N6XQs contest record of around 53000 points next year? Stay tuned and see....better yet, get on the air and give us some contacts!
and lastly..... N6CA operating 24GHz, lurking in the shadows.....
